Following Christ Alone: Guarding Your Faith Against the Cult of Personality

In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

In a world overflowing with charismatic voices, extreme opinions, and silver tongued leaders, it is all too easy to be caught in the tide of human admiration - deceived. Every day, we see people drawn toward prominent figures, celebrating charisma and influence, power and money. Yet as Christians, our allegiance is not to men, no matter how gifted, influential or persuasive. Our devotion is to Christ alone.

The Apostle Paul reminds us of this truth:

“For I am determined not to know anything among you,
save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
— 1 Corinthians 2:2

We do not follow Peter, Paul, or Apollos. We follow Jesus Christ, the unchanging cornerstone of our faith. No human teaching, no worldly authority, and no popular voice can replace His guidance. Our thoughts, our actions, and our convictions are to be anchored in His Word—untainted and unaltered.

Christ Himself gave us a simple yet profound standard to navigate life: the Law of Love.

“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang
all the law and the prophets.”
— Matthew 22:37-40

Whatever the challenge, whatever the controversy, this is our measure. Love God. Love others. Let this be the lens through which we discern truth and make decisions. It is the guide for every interaction, every choice, and every opinion.

As followers of Christ, we are called to rise above worldly divisions. We are neither Right Wing nor Left Wing, Conservative nor Liberal, Nationalist nor bound to any faction. Our identity is rooted in Christ alone, above all else. Man is not our standard—God is. We are Christians first, and this reality must shape our actions, our speech, and our priorities.  Why do we war with each other because of men, when we are supposed to be brothers and sister in Christ.  We are to seek HIM.

Jesus warned His disciples that the world would not understand this allegiance:

“If the world hate you,
ye know that it hated me before it hated you…
because ye are not of the world,
but I have chosen you out of the world,
therefore the world hateth you.”
— John 15:18-19

We are not of this world. We belong to God. Our unity, our discernment, and our moral compass must flow from Him. When human opinions clash, when divisions arise, when voices grow loud, let us pause and ask: Does this align with Christ’s Word? Does it reflect His love?

“I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me.”
— John 14:6

Let us remain vigilant. Let the Holy Spirit guide our hearts and minds. In these times of division and confusion, discernment is urgent. Stand firm in Christ, follow Him alone, and allow His love to be the measure of all things.  Let love be our duty.

Take heed, beloved: in every voice and every message, let Christ be your guide. Let His Word be your standard. And let love, unwavering and pure, direct all you do.

Amen
